The McDonald County Mustangs looked to be well on their way to their first victory of the Neosho Holiday Classic Thursday morning against Hannibal. However, the Pirates weathered the early storm from the Mustangs and came away with a 71-55 victory.

In the first quarter, McDonald County scored 17 points and jumped out to a six-point lead behind the hot shooting of Miguel Morales.

Then, in the second quarter, Hannibal answered back with a 19-point quarter to take a two-point lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the Pirates caught fire early and exploded for 22 points to open up a nine-point advantage.

In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs and Pirates traded punches for most of the frame before Hannibal delivered the knockout blow with a pair of transition baskets.

Morales finished with a game-high 30 points, displaying an impressive offensive arsenal throughout. Jordan Wells added 15 for the Mustangs. Mike Shivers led Hannibal with 26 points while Christian Williams contributed 17.

McDonald County will take on Central in the 15th place game today at 9 a.m. in the high school. Hannibal will play for 13th place against Bentonville at 10:30 a.m.
