The McDonald County AA American Legion team is still searching for their first win of the summer after being swept on Tuesday by Miller.

In game one, McDonald County took a 3-2 lead going into the fourth inning. However, Miller exploded for seven runs to take a 9-3 lead.

McDonald County didn’t give up. They scored one run in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 9-5. In the top of the seventh inning, Miller tacked on one more run.

McDonald County refused to go down without throwing a few punches first. They drew the game back within two runs at 10-8 before the last out was recorded with the winning run at the plate.

Mark Haul pitched the complete game for McDonald County. Besides that rocky fourth inning, he kept the game within reach throughout.

“We played hard the whole game,” McDonald County Legion coch Robert Cornell said. “They didn’t give up. I was impressed with the way Mark threw, going the complete game. We needed that to save arms for the rest of the week. They never gave into the pressure of being in it.”

Offensively, McDonald County was led by Haul with two base hits. Jarrett Sanny had a double while Trent Frazier and Dakota Stites each had a hit.

In game two, McDonald County was in striking distance going into the fifth inning with the score at 5-3. Unfortunately for McDonald County, the Miller offense exploded and the 39ers plated eight runs in the frame and ultimately run ruled McDonald County 13-3.

Jake Wood pitched four strong innings for McDonald County, allowing five runs.

“Jake pitched four hard innings for us,” Cornell said. “We were still in it when he came out.”
Sanny and Evan Acuff combined to pitch one inning of relief.

Offensively, McDonald County got one hit each from Wood, Frazier and Cooper Underwood.

“They competed well in both games. I’ve got to give the boys credit for that,” Cornell said. “We just haven’t been able to come out with a win yet. It will come, I’m not worried about that because I know they will keep learning and getting better and the win will come eventually.”
