After one quarter Friday night, things were going as planned. The Neosho Lady Wildcats weren’t shooting real well on offense, but they led Carl Junction 12-9.

After that, The Lady Bulldogs caught fire on offense and never cooled off in a shocking, 53-42 win over Neosho.

The Lady ‘Cats scored just three points in the second quarter and never led in the second half.
One major problem for Neosho was the free throw line. The Lady Wildcats were just 7-of-20 from the charity stripe.

“I think we could put our finger on three or four things that we are just not doing well right now,” Robbins said. “It’s stuff that we are working on in practice and we just need to get better at it. Free throw shooting is important, when you got 7-for-20 at the line you are not going to beat anyone.
Those are easy points to get and I know we missed at least seven or eight layups too.”

In the third quarter, Neosho found a rhythm on offense, with Morgan Rathmann scoring six of her nine points in the third. However, Carl Junction sophomore Bryce Boyd caught fire at the same time.

Boyd finished with a game-high 21 points, most of them after halftime.

Neosho got within five points (32-27) with 2:08 left in the third quarter, but Carl Junction closed the frame on a 5-0 run and the Lady ‘Cats never got closer than six points in the fourth quarter.

“We need to take better care of the basketball,” Robbins said. “We tried to slow things down tonight and focus more on our half court offense. When we did that, we got some open looks. We just need to be able to make shots. We also need to rebound the ball better, we are giving up way too many second chance opportunities. I don’t fault our effort. I know the girls are playing hard we just need to get better in some areas.”

Scorers for Neosho were: Ashley Gilion 14, Rathmann 9, Morgan Rogers 7, Chelsey Henry 6, Matty Liedtke 4 and Whitney Wise 2.

Henry had a team-high nine rebounds to go with two blocked shots and Gilion had four assists.

Neosho (6-11) takes on East Newton at home Monday.
