The Neosho girl’s basketball team is limping into the holiday season.

Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats were without two of their regular starters in Catie Cummins (concussion) and Morgan Rathmann (knee) when they traveled to Seneca.

The Lady Indians defeated the depleted Lady Wildcats, 50-45.

“It was a back and forth game,” Neosho coach Lance Robbins said. “We had a couple good looks at the basket near the end and we just couldn’t knock them down. We didn’t manage the clock well at the end, we just played like a young team, which we are. We played hard and just didn’t get it done in the end.”

Ashley Gilion led three Neosho scorers in double figures with 14 points. Freshmen Chelsey Henry and Morgan Rogers scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. Matty Liedtke (7) and Sydney Bunch (2) closed out the scoring for the Lady ‘Cats.

For Seneca, Molli Cooper scored 17 to lead the Lady Indians to a 4-1 start.

“It was a really hard fought game,” Seneca coach Bob Coffey said. “We played much better defensively (than Monday) and we were a lot more composed down the stretch.”

Bailey Skelton added 11 points for the Lady Indians.

Other scorers for Seneca were: Mirana Heath 8, Annie Howard 6, Rachel Butterfield 6 and Maura Butler 2.

Seneca returns to action Thursday when they host Joplin. The Lady Wildcats will play host to Diamond on Monday.
