The Neosho girls tennis team landed in the win column in its second match of the year Tuesday by beating visiting Aurora, 5-4.

The Lady Wildcats won two of the three doubles matches and recroded the three victories needed to pull out the victory.

Neosho won at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles to set the tone.

Elizabeth Wood won 8-3 over Aurora’s Natalie Phipps at No. 1, while Neosho’s Sara Nine won 8-4 over Sarah Burnett. The final win in singles play came from Janci Fowkes, who won at No. 4 singles, 8-6 over Izabella Zellers.

Aurora won at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles. Lizully Canales won 8-4 over Neosho’s Davi Bentz at No. 3 singles. Aurora’s Aubrey Brite won 8-2 over Rachel Mallory at No. 5 singles, while Jacquilyn Davis won 8-6 over Neosho’s AshLeigh Thomlinson.

In doubles play, Wood and Bentz won 8-5 over Phipps and Canales. Neosho picked up a close win from Mallory and Thomlinson at No. 3 doubles. That group won 9-8, including 7-4 in the tiebreaker, over Brite and Davis.

Aurora secured a victory from Burnett and Zellers, 8-6.

Neosho won one of the four JV matches held.

Cicy Bentz and Tori Michael won a doubles match, 6-1.

The same duo lost a JV match, 6-1, to Katherine Pennell and Audrey Perrin. Kate Besser and Erin Ferguson dropped a pair of doubles match, losing 6-3 and 6-2.

Neosho (1-1, 0-1 in COC) returns to Central Ozark Conference action Thursday, hosting Ozark at 4:30 p.m.
