At the beginning of the season, when asked how many points he would score this year, East Newton senior Tucker Anderson replied by saying he didn’t care so long as the team won.

Tuesday night, his team lost. But, he stamped his name in the East Newton High School record books.

During Seneca’s 56-39 victory over the Patriots, Anderson scored nine points. Entering the contest, he needed just six points to surpass 1,000 for his career.

“Obviously, that’s an outstanding accomplishment for him. It shows the dedication and work that he’s put forth in his career,” East Newton coach Barry Yocom said. “He is an outstanding player and this just solidifies his standing as one of the best players in the history of the program.”

On Tuesday night, Seneca got 16 points from Kyler Ng and 14 from Daniel Noah to put a damper on Anderson’s night.

The Indians never trailed in the win.

Other scorers for Seneca were: Logan St. Clair 8, Payton Rawlins 6, Elias Roelfsema 6, Bradley Jumper 3, Dalton Lindsey 2 and Chance Smith 1.

East Newton was led by Sam Swartz with 10 points. Other Patriots’ scorers were: Jaron McCully 7, Clayton Harrell 6, John Hansen 3, Andrew Hightower 3 and Colby Thomas 1.

East Newton (9-11, 2-1 Big 8) will host Cassville Friday night.

Seneca (11-9, 2-1 Big 8) will host Monett Friday. The Indians beat the Cubs in November during the Carthage Invitational Tournament.
