For one quarter, it appeared that the Seneca Indians were going to be able to play the game at the Parsons Vikings’ pace. And it looked like it was going to work for them.

But, after a high scoring first quarter, Parsons slowed the pace and edged out the Indians in a 63-57 win.

The loss capped off a 0-3 weekend for Seneca at the CJ Classic.

“We went 0-3, but we gained more this week than we have all season,” Seneca coach Will King said. “We have been so much better these last two games than we have been all year. The effort has been
great and I think the teamwork has been great. We played three good teams. If we can get better this is a success. Yes, we hate losing and I hate losing, but we are making great strides.”

In the first quarter, Seneca drained four 3-pointers and jumped out to a 22-18 lead. Kyler Ng and Daniel Noah each had eight points in the first eight minutes of the contest.

In the second, Parsons slowed down the pace and the Indians struggled to get shots to fall. The Vikings used this to their advantage and moved ahead. At halftime, Seneca trailed 32-28.

After the two teams played even in the third quarter, Seneca started to mount a comeback in the fourth.

Ng took over in the final eight minutes. The junior guard scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth.

The Indians actually regained the lead at 52-51 with 3:09 to play. But that lead was short lived as Parsons went on a 6-4 run to go back up at 57-55. They would not trail again.

“Early on we hit shots,” King said. “I think that had to do with us still having our legs. And that was something I worried about was us having our legs under us later on after three games in three days. In the second and third quarter, we lost our legs a little bit. We got good looks but just missed shots later in the game.”

Parsons was led by Wes Krull with 14 points.

Other scorers for Seneca were: Noah 13, Payton Rawlins 10, Logan St. Clair 4, Elias Roelfsema 4 and Chance Smith 2. Dalton Lindsey had six rebounds. Rawlins had four blocked shots. Noah and Ng each had three assists.

Seneca (9-7) will host Southwest Thursday.
