The East Newton Patriots fell behind early and couldn’t keep pace as it drops its first road game of the season Friday, 36-8, to the Strafford Indians.
The Indians (1-1) scored three touchdowns in the first quarter rushing the ball to take control of the game. Strafford's first two touchdowns came from 16-yard runs, the first by James Grass and the other by quarterback Dylan Barnum. After both touchdowns Cody Leamy booted the point after attempts.
Late in the first quarter, Jacob Shoemaker scored on a 12-yard run. Leamy's PAT made it 21-0.
The Patriots (0-2) actually had the first chance to get on the scoreboard but came up short at the 10-yard line. Strafford then went down and scored on Grass’ touchdown.
East Newton got on the board in the second quarter when Ammon Allphin capped off a drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.
At the break, East Newton was down 21-6.
After a scorless third quarter, the Indians tacked on two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Grass added two touchdowns, from 21 and 10 yards, to help ice the game.
The East Newton Patriots will remain on the road in week three, heading to Nevada to face the winless Tigers, starting at 7 p.m.
