The final game of the regular season ended just like the first game for the McDonald County Mustangs – with a win.
McDonald County won its second straight game when it defeated visiting East Newton, 19-0, Friday.
McDonald County (8-13) took advantage of a six-run first inning and a nine-run third inning against the Patriots.
Robert Cornell and Jeb Clark had back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning. Bo Bergen drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, before Brandon Prince hit a two-run single.
Tyler Shaver, batting for the second time, came through with a two-run double.
In the second inning, McDonald County made it 7-0 when Travis Spears singled to drive in Clark, who earlier singled.
The Mustangs broke the game open in the third inning, thanks to home runs.
Kaylub Divine, batting for the first time, had a home run to start the scoring. After two batters were hit by a pitch, and one walk, Alex Arntfield had an RBI single.
Taylor Paul added a sacrifice fly to drive in another run. Sy Morris delivered a two-run double, before scoring on Shaver’s two-run homer.
In the fourth inning, Spears hit a two-run homer and Bergen followed with a solo home run.
Divine, Prince and Nick Wills combined on a two-hit shutout for the Mustangs.
Prince started and threw two innings, striking out two and giving up one hit. Divine tossed two innings, striking out four and giving up one hit. Wills threw a perfect fifth inning.
Shaver, Cornell, Clark, Spears and Bergen all had two hits for the Mustangs.
Mason Whitman and Chuck Carpenter each had a single to account for the hits for the Patriots.
