Webb City rallies to defeat Monett

The Webb City Post 322 American Legion team scored six runs over its final two times at-bat to rally for a 8-6 victory over Monett Post 91 Sunday evening at McDonald County High School in the American Legion District 15 playoffs.

The victory keeps Webb City’s going for one more day, while Monett’s season comes to an end with an 11-21 record.

Monett went up went up 5-0 on Webb City and then led 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Post 322 rallied.

Seth Kelly and Mack Kyle singled and both scored on Braxton Perry’s double. He would move up on an error and a wild pitch, making it 6-4. Walks to Cody Thompson and Jordan Hickman helped set up the final two runs for Webb City. In what appeared to be the final out of the inning, a pop fly was dropped in center field and Hickman scored. Tyler Burgess then hit an RBI single to score Thompson, making it 7-6.

Post 322 added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Kyle tripled and scored on Hickman’s RBI single.

Thompson threw the first four innings for Webb City, and Perry tossed the last five to get the victory.

Brendon Cox started and went into the seventh inning for Monett. Levi Buchannan and Jared Barchak tossed the final inning for Post 91.

Monett had a five-run inning to stake out an early lead in the fourth inning. Marcus Enlow had a two-run double, while Kirk Moore added an RBI single. Michael Roberts and Ryan Johnson each had groundouts to drive in runs.

Johnson drove in another run with an RBI double in the eighth inning. Webb City plays Neosho at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
