The Seneca Indians football team made quite a statement in the second half and by doing so, rolled to a 35-19 victory over Lamar in Big 8 Conference action Friday at Thomas O’Sullivan Stadium.

“It’s a good feeling,” Seneca coach Rob Townsend said of the first conference win. “Lamar played well. We played well and got better from week one.”

The star of the game was Allen Frost, who had a career high 261 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns. It was the highest rushing performance for the Indians since Ishmael Hankins ran for 304 yards in 2006.

Seneca (1-1 overall, 1-0 in Big 8) raced out to a 14-0 lead over the Tigers, thanks to a pair of 1-yard touchdowns run by Frost and Jake Rhoades. Bryce Morris booted both extra points to make it 14-0.

Lamar scored on a fumble, as the ball went into the end zone and a Tiger lineman fell on it for a touchdown. At halftime, Seneca led 14-6.

In the second half, Lamar (0-2, 0-2) came out and got a turnover on the kickoff and then went down to score. Down 14-12, the Tigers went for two, but Seneca’s Nick Chasten tipped the ball and the score stayed in Seneca’s favor.

Then, the Seneca offense took off.

A 90-yard drive was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Frost. Morris’ PAT made it 21-12. Rhoades then threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Cummings to make it 28-12 in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Frost busted out for a 61-yard touchdown run to make it 35-12.

“Our offense, after the first possession of going three-and-out, played pretty well,” Townsend said. “We had seven possessions and we only punted once. All of the other were good drives and we got first downs.”

Lamar accounted for the final touchdown in the final minutes of the game.
