Carl Junction beats Seneca

The Carl Junction Bulldogs baseball team wrapped up second place in the Big 8 Conference with a victory over visiting Seneca, 7-1, Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs (16-3 overall, 5-1 in Big 8 play) broke open a 1-1 game by scoring two runs in the second inning and three more in the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Jack Luton scored on Jon Michel’s ground ball out.

Seneca (12-5, 4-2) tied the game in the top of the second when Ryan Fry singled and came home on an error.

Miscues by Seneca allowed the Bulldogs to grab a 2-1 lead in the second. Zak Porath reached on an error and then stole second base. Luton then hit an RBI triple.

Jake Hale’s RBI single and Nate Thomas’ RBI squeeze bunt gave the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead. In the sixth inning, Michel had an RBI single, while a two-base error led to two runs for Carl Junction.

Patrick Bennett started and threw six innings for Seneca, but was tagged with the loss.
He gave up six hits, struck out nine and walked three. He gave up seven runs, but only one was earned.

Carl Junction’s Hale gave up five hits, one run and struck out one in five-plus innings.
Thomas threw the final two innings, striking out one and walking one.
