For the second time this season, the Parkview soccer team picked up 3-1 victory over Neosho.
However, the win on Monday over Neosho ended the season for the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Vikings scored a pair of first half goals and those stood up in the end in the district playoff game Monday at Joplin’s Junge Field.
A mere six minutes into the game, Parkview got on the board with a goal from Shelby Stewart. In the 32nd minute of the first half, Jessica Maerz scored a goal for Parkview.
Neosho (10-12) pulled within a goal in the second half. Jackie Field, on a pass from Stephanie Wilson, netted a goal at the 60:05 mark to make it a one-goal game.
Stewart scored the final goal in the 68th minute to lock up the win for Parkview.
“In the second half we came down and shot the ball well,” said Neosho coach Laura Schisler. “We just didn’t finish. We had the keeper on the ground and we had the goalie out of the box, we just didn’t score.”
Neosho had 21 shots on goal, including 12 in the second half. Neosho goalie Ashley Bartkoski had 14 saves in goal.
“The girls really wanted it and they played their hearts out,” said Schisler.
She added, “I thought we did really well this year. No one expected much out of this group because of Katy (Rodriguez) leaving. They won 12 games last year and this year we won 10 games. That’s not bad for a team not supposed to be back (to last year’s level). We have a lot of people coming back.”
