The Crowder baseball team split the second day of its two-day, three-game weekend series with Panola (Texas) College Sunday afternoon.
In the first game, Crowder got 10 hits from the lineup and a strong complete game outing from freshman pitcher Marcos Hinojosa in a 5-1 win.
Hinojosa threw seven innings and allowed one earned run on just three hits while striking out a pair.
Offensively, Justin Treece led the way, going 3-for-3 at the dish. Treece also had an RBI. Jordan Dey had two hits and Tony Sandifer had a pair of runs driven home for the Roughriders. Cody Althouse, Logan Pearson, Kyle Dickens and Sam May all had one hit for the Riders in the victory.
In the second game of the afternoon, Panola got three runs in the third inning and that was all it needed in a 3-1 win.
Crowder had six hits and did not commit an error in the game for the first time in the young season, but it wasn’t enough.
Treece drove in the Riders’ only run on a groundout in the fifth inning.
Lucas Fedderson, Drew Crain, May, Dickens Sandifer and Althouse all had one hit each for Crowder.
On the mound, Doug Sefcik started and took the loss. He went three innings and gave up the three runs in the third. Ethan Mather pitched two innings of scoreless relief and struck out two. Dustin Kremer pitched one inning for the Roughriders.
Crowder (3-1) will travel to Miami, Okla., to face NEO A&M Thursday. First pitch for the single nine-inning game is set for 2 p.m.
