Facing the Nevada Red Sox, the Neosho Nighthawks were unable to get much going Friday night.

The visiting Red Sox cruised to a 10-0 victory in the District 15 match up at Roy B. Shaver Stadium.

Neosho came back to win the nightcap behind a 1-hit effort by Anthony Hendrix to win 2-0.

Neosho improved to 12-9 overall with the split and now sit at 3-3 in District 15 action.
In the opening game loss, an omen of things to come for Neosho came early on. With two outs, Jerrod Alexander struck out, but he reached base safely  on a passed ball. The next batter, Taylor Scotten, hit a 2-run homer.

“We never really responded too well after that,” Neosho coach Eddie Crupper said.

Miscues and blunders cost the Nighthawks more runs later in the game. Two more of Nevada’s 10 runs came on throwing errors on bunts that saw Neosho throw the ball into right field.

In the second game, Neosho pulled out a close victory over the Red Sox. Hendrix got his first win of the year and shutout the Red Sox in five innings on the mound.

“He threw the ball where it needed to go,” Crupper surmised.

Neosho got a pair of runs, scoring once in the second and another in the third inning. In the second inning, Tyler Marion doubled. He moved to third on a ground ball and then scored on Jacob Rickman’s sacrifice fly.

In the third inning, Keith Geller doubled and would score the final run on a passed ball.

Neosho returns to action Monday hosting Aurora in a AAA/AA doubleheader.

The Nighthawks play at 6 p.m. and the Nightriders play at about 8 p.m. The game is a make-up game from Wednesday, June 24, that wasn’t played.
