Neosho Youth Football hits the road

The Neosho Youth Football League had a road trip last weekend. The Neosho Gold teams traveled to Granby to take on East Newton while the Neosho Black squads headed to Junge Stadium to face off with Joplin Blue. This weekend, the NYFL will close out their fall slate with Neosho Gold playing host to Webb City White at Bob Anderson Stadium and Neosho Black traveling to Seneca.

GOLD
THIRD GRADERS

Behind a great game rushing from the entire team, Neosho Gold defeated East Newton, 16-6 in Granby.

Cayden Auch paced Neosho with 112 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. Chase Liedtke has 72 yards on six carries. Myles Buck scored the other touchdown for Neosho. As a team, the Wildcats ran for 252 yards on 23 carries. They averaged 10.9 yards per carry in the win. Domenick Kirkwood and Dalton Brodie each had more than 20 yards on the ground. Buck and Landon Kivett had more than 10 yards.

On defense, Kirkwood made plays all over the field. He finished with a team-high nine tackles and a fumble recovery. Brodie and Kivett had six tackles each for Neosho.

FOURTH GRADERS
Behind some tough running from Gage Kelley, the Neosho Gold fourth graders got a dramatic, 14-6 win over East Newton in overtime.

Kelley ran for both touchdowns and finished with 107 yards on 14 carries in the win. Isiah Santiago had 10 yards on two carries and ran for a two-point conversion. AJ Van Lear completed one pass to Santiago for 12 yards.

Zane Persinger led the Wildcats with seven tackles on defense. Nakota Bach had four stops for Neosho. Santiago also had an interception in the game.

FIFTH GRADERS
In a tightly contested battle throughout, the Neosho Gold fifth graders dropped an 8-6 decision to East Newton.

Dylan Jordan had a monster game, rushing for 148 yards on just 10 carries. Payton Ezell had 24 yards in the loss.

On defense, Ethan White had a great day. He recorded 11 tackles. Jacob Santiago finished with seven stops for Neosho and Logan Vaughan had an interception.

SIXTH GRADERS
The Neosho Gold sixth grade team fell in Granby, 21-16 Saturday.

Brady Wise ran for 61 yards and a score on 13 carries for Neosho. Gavin Kelley scored the other touchdown. He finished with 28 yards on four carries. Jarvis Funk finished with 29 yards on the ground. Wise completed one pass to Funk for eight yards and he had three kickoff returns for 43 yards.

Adrian Hitchcock led the defense with seven tackles. Trey Jones had six tackles for Neosho and Gavin Carpenter tallied five stops. Kelley had an interception in the loss.

Sam Sullivan ran for 130 yards and two scores to lead the Wildcats on offense. Ryan Cargile had 49 yards and a touchdown as well.

Drayke Perry had a great game on defense, recording a team-high seven tackles and picking off a Joplin pass. Cargile also had an interception in the win.

FOURTH GRADERS
Despite having some success moving the football up and down the field, the Neosho Black fourth grade team failed to get on the board in a 22-0 loss to Joplin Blue.

Quincey Willis had 83 yards rushing for Neosho. He also completed a 20-yard pass to Kaden Dickens.

On defense, Willis had five tackles to go along with an interception. Kolton Sanders led Neosho with six tackles.

FIFTH GRADERS
A prolific Joplin Blue offense was too much for the Neosho Black fifth graders to overcome in a 26-6 loss Saturday at Junge Stadium.

McKay Harris ran for 59 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Mason Ray and Cade Lyerla had 25 and 19 yards, respectively. Ray was 5-for-10 passing in the game for 42 yards. Isiah Richardson had two catches for 15 yards. Harris caught one pass for 14 yards and Drew Osborn had two grabs for nine yards.

Trevon Letts paced Neosho with seven tackles. Tyler Sullivan had five tackles and Osborn had four stops and two fumble recoveries.

SIXTH GRADERS
The Neosho Black sixth graders had 217 yards rushing as a team and the Wildcats defeated Joplin Blue, 18-12 on the road Saturday.

Kaleb Larson finished with 141 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and Zach Jennings finished with 57 yards and two scores. Theo Morrison ran for 20 yards in the win. Jennings also completed 1-of-2 passes for 16 yards. Morrison had the reception.

Larson also had a big day on defense, recording a team-high nine tackles and recovering two fumbles. Morrison also had nine stops for Neosho. Davon Willis added nine tackles in the win for Neosho.
