A big fourth quarter by the Diamond basketball team parlayed into a come-from-behind win over Lamar, 54-47.

The Lady Wildcats were down 37-35 going into the fourth quarter, but outscored the Lady Tigers by nine points to secure the win.

“It’s a big win,” said Diamond coach Brian Brimacombe. “You know, going into the Christmas break I thought we played well, but we had a let down at Wheaton right before the break. So to go on the road to a Big 8 school and win is a good step forward to where we want to be at the end of the season.”

Diamond (5-5) connected on 7-of-11 free throws in the second half to help pull out the win. The Lady Wildcats didn’t take the lead until there was 2:37 left in the game, when Crystal Lane hit a 3-pointer.

Katie VanLue led Diamond with 14 points, while Lindsey Gilbert added 13 points.

Lamar received 14 points from Chloe Baker.

Diamond returns to action tonight, hosting Monett at 6 p.m.
