The McDonald County Post 392 officially have another winning streak started thanks to a two game sweep over the Nevada Red Sox Monday night.
Post 392 won 1-0 and then 10-2 over the Nevada squad that had won their “AA” district tournament.
McDonald County starter Nick Wills was almost perfect in the opening game, as the right-hander was tossing a no-hitter going into the fifth and final inning. However, Ryan Austin broke up the no-hit bid with a single.
Aside from Austin’s single, Wills walked one batter and struck out seven, in what was a solid game for him.
“He didn’t pitch as well his last few outing, but he threw a good one tonight,” said McDonald County coach Lee Smith.
Post 392 (27-15) scored its only run without a hit in the game. In the third inning, Drew Pearcy walked and then stole second base. An error moved him to third base and a passed ball allowed him to score the game’s only run.
McDonald County had only three hits off the Nevada pitching trio of Austin Baldwin, Tyler Dobson and Ryan Austin. Pearcy had a double, while Wills and Travis Spears each had a single.
Nevada (26-11) struck first in game two, going up 1-0 in the first inning. Ross Wolf singled and would score on a throwing error.
McDonald County scored 10 straight runs, four in the bottom of the first inning and six more in the bottom of the second inning, to put the game away.
An error led to Mac County’s first run in the bottom of the first inning. Bryan Burnett was hit by a pitch to force in a run, while Spencer Paul had an RBI single and on that play, a throwing error allowed another run to score.
Post 392 scored all six runs with two outs in the second inning. Kyle Smith had a double with one-out and moved to third base on Bubby Masters’ double. Charlie Bridenstine delivered a two-run single. Sy Morris followed with a RBI single and Paul then had a two-run single. A fielding error by the Red Sox on Dakota Acuff’s fly ball allowed two more runs to score.
Nevada’s Ron Johnson walked and scored on Dobson’s RBI single in the fourth inning to cap the scoring.
Acuff threw all five innings, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out six for Post 392.
