The Neosho Storm played its final tournament of the season at the Republic March Madness Invitational this past weekend. The Storm played the Fair Grove Lady Eagles, Missouri Valley Magic all-star team, and Bolivar Lady Liberators. The team of 5th grade girls went 2-1 for the day and earned second place in the tournament.
Individual statistics for the tournament include 6 points, 15 rebounds (including a game-high 9 rebounds against the Magic), and 4 steals for Emilee Anderson; 37 points (including a game-high 22 points, as well as a 3-pointer), 13 rebounds, 11 steals, 5 blocks, and 1 assist for Allison Burr; 4 points, 16 rebounds (including a game-high 9 rebounds against Fair Grove), and 4 steals for Makayla Hayes; 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, and 1 assist for Gabee Rainwater; 5 points, 18 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 blocks for KarLee Rasmussen; 18 points (including a 3-pointer), 6 rebounds, 13 steals, 1 block, and 3 assists for Cami Roy; and 10 points, 16 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block, and 2 assists for Jessica Van Lear.
The Republic tournament was the 12th tournament for the Storm this season. The only third place finish for the Storm was its first tournament in Strafford against two sixth grade teams. The Republic tournament marked the Storm’s third time to place second. They also placed third at the November Neosho tournament (also against two sixth grade teams) and at the Bolivar tournament, with an overtime score of 24-23 in the championship game.
The Storm took first place in eight of its 12 tournaments this season.
The Storm won championships at the Joplin Sports Park, Lebanon, Liberal, Chelsea (Okla.), Neosho, Granby, Lamar, and Mt. Vernon.
The 5th grade girls’ basketball team, coached by Robert Burr and Jo Van Lear, played a total of 54 games this season.
In their second season together, the Storm’s final record is 46-8, with five of those losses going to sixth grade teams. In those 54 games, the Storm scored 1,763 points and only allowed its opponents to score 752 points.
Allison Burr led the Storm in points with 565 points for the season.
Burr’s personal best was 25 points in a single game.
Jessica Van Lear ended the season with a total of 303 points. KarLee Rasmussen followed closely with 290 points.
Cami Roy added 279 points, followed by Makayla Hayes with 148, Emilee Anderson with 98, Kali Godfrey with 69, Gabee Rainwater with 7, and Gabby Ponce with 4 points.
The top rebounder for the season was Rasmussen with 381. Rasmussen grabbed a personal high of 17 rebounds in two different games this season. Other rebound totals for the season were Hayes with 282, Anderson with 231, Burr with 217, Van Lear with 185, Godfrey with 133, Roy with 110, Rainwater with 16, and Ponce with 11 rebounds.

Burr led a third category with total blocks for the season with 41. Rasmussen and Van Lear tied with 33 blocks each. Roy had 25 blocks, followed by Godfrey with 12, Anderson with 9, Hayes with 2, Rainwater with 1, and Ponce with 1 block.
Roy led in assists with a total of 122. Burr had 67, followed by Van Lear with 48, Godfrey with 24, Anderson with 14, Hayes with 12, Rasmussen with 9, and Rainwater with 1 assist.
