Sarcoxie’s Ed Salyer hit two home runs to help lead his team to a 15-8 victory over Diamond in Spring River Valley Conference baseball action Thursday.
Diamond actually went up 3-0 over Sarcoxie, but the Bears outscored the Wildcats 15-5.
In the bottom of the first inning, Clifton Bycroft had an RBI single, while Craig VanLue and David Dodson drew bases loaded walks for Diamond.
The Bears answered with five runs in the second to grab the lead. Phillip Stinnett had the big hit, a two-run double. Levi Mason walked to force in a run, while Sam Edwards was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Sayler hit a solo home run in the third inning and cranked a two-run homer in the fifth inning, giving the Bears an 12-4 lead.
The Wildcats (3-11 overall, 2-4 in SRVC play) came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Epperson, Cameron Skinner and Casey Youngblood provided RBI singles.
Youngblood paced Diamond’s offense with three hits. VanLue and Bycroft had two hits each.
Sage Atkinson started and was tagged with the loss for Diamond. Epperson and Skinner also pitched.
J.D. Smith started and threw only 2/3 of an inning for Sarcoxie, exiting after five walks and three runs. Ryan Price threw the next 4 1/3 innings to get the win, giving up nine hits and five runs. Mason threw the last two innings.
Salyer was 4-for-5 with 4 RBI for Sarcoxie. Stinnett and Colton Myers had two hits each.
Diamond plays at Lockwood Monday in another SRVC game, starting at 4:30 p.m.
