The Seneca Lady Indians basketball team, for the second straight night, flexed its offensive power and picked up yet another easy win.
A night after pounding Wheaton 65-17, the Lady Indians came back Tuesday and beat the host McAuley Lady Warriors, 71-33.
The victory means the Lady Indians won the pool and will be in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The opponent will be the winner of the Pierce City-East Newton game, which will be played Thursday.
In earning this win, Seneca was pretty efficient running its “high-low” game, as the inside play was dominant and the shooting from the arch was just as good.
“I was very pleased with our effort,” Seneca coach Bob Coffey said. “I like how we played inside and outside. We fed the ball to the post and they did a good job of reading the double team and kicking outside. We were very crisp on offense.
“It all starts with us running the floor. We get to pound the ball inside the post and that really kicks off the offense.”
The Lady Indians (13-6) got off to a great start, which included a 16-0 run to start the game.
McAuley was held scoreless until there was just over a minute left in the first quarter. In building the big lead, Seneca got baskets inside from post players Victoria Foley and Jacci Yust.
Holding a 18-5 advantage after the first quarter, Seneca went on a 16-2 run and held McAuley to only one basket the first five minutes of the quarter.
Yust had nine of those points inside the paint, while Erin Esposito knocked down a couple of jumpers and just like that, it was 34-7.
At halftime, Seneca held comfortable 39-9 lead over the Lady Warriors (4-9).
