The Neosho Nightriders Jr. American Legion team split a doubleheader with Carthage at Carl Lewton Stadium Monday night.
After losing the first game 12-10, the Nightriders rebounded with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap to salvage the split. The Night-riders are now 10-5 overall, 2-5 in District 15 play heading into Thursday’s home game against Nevada. First-pitch for the doubleheader is set for 6 p.m. at Shaver Stadium, and it will be only the second home game for the Nightriders this season.
In the first game loss to Carthage, the Nightriders had success at the plate. Jake Barnes went 4-for-4 with two doubles, and Jacob Rickman went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Silas Bohannon, Matt Link and AJ Enlow all finished with two hits, including a double by Enlow.
Barnes started the game for the Nightriders and took the loss. Enlow came on and pitched in relief.
In the 5-3 victory, Neosho’s Scout Pogue started the game and picked up the win. Dalton McDaniel took the mound in relief and earned a save.
Barnes led the team at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Matt Link scored Neosho’s first run in the first inning, and Bohannon scored a run in the third.
Pogue and Garrett Cooper both scored in the fourth to put Neosho up 4-1.
In the fifth, Barnes led off with a double and later scored for a 5-1 lead.
Carthage tacked on two more runs in the game, but the Nightriders were able to hold on for the win.
Thursday’s home doubleheader against Nevada is the first in a string of home dates for the Nightriders. Neosho will play Aurora at home on Monday, June 29, followed by a home game against Seneca on July 2, and a home date against Carthage on July 6.
