Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt will join with U.S. reps from Arkansas and Oklahoma in presenting a multi-state regional water summit, to be held starting at 9 a.m. April 19 at Crowder College’s Farber Building in Neosho.

Joining Blunt at the event will be Congressman John Boozman of Arkansas and Dan Boren of Oklahoma.

The day-long conference of panels, discussion groups and speakers, includes, for the first time, participation by three United States Congressmen. Blunt and Boozman have hosted the event for several years, while Boren will make his first appearance. The conference has alternated between Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri for most of the last decade.

Blunt, who helped establish the bi-district conference, explained that its emphasis and direction has changed during the last decade to respond to water-related events and conditions.

“Initially we discussed government’s role in how to improve the quality of the water in our lakes, streams, and impoundments,” he said. “It’s still essential to any conference. However, we are also concerned about access to water quantity since groundwater can no longer assure long-term adequate supplies for drinking water. This year’s conference will continue to explore those issues.”

The event is free and open to the public; however due to space limitations and the availability of lunch, attendees should RSVP to 781-1041.
