Jimmie W. Elliot, who eluded law enforcement officers in Newton County in October, is now behind bars.

Elliot, 38, was captured Monday night by deputies with the Stone County Sheriff’s Department, according to Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland.

“Apparently, he returned to Stone County and they arrested him last night,” Copeland said. “He is in custody at Stone County now.”

Working on information received that a fugitive wanted by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies was hiding out at a residence in the Lampe, Mo. area, Stone County Deputy Vinnie Jacabson spotted the suspect’s vehicle parked at a residence on Route H. Several deputies and a sergeant from the Missouri State Highway Patrol surrounded the residence and as deputies approached the front of the home, Elliott ran out the back door toward the waiting deputies. Elliott was taken into custody without incident. Deputies then secured the residence and located two females and the owner of the residence inside the home.

Elliott and members of his family were allegedly involved in a chase in Newton and McDonald counties on Oct. 1. Copeland said a Neosho police officer saw a white Penske rental moving truck at a local motel. A few days previously, the Taney County Sheriff’s Department had issued a bulletin for local law enforcement to be on the lookout for the truck, as two of the occupants were wanted for burglaries in that area. The pair were believed to be armed and dangerous.
Copeland said the police officer pulled onto the motel parking lot at the same time as the Penske truck. A chase ensued, leading officers into McDonald County before the truck turned back north into Newton County.

At one point in McDonald County, a deputy wrecked his patrol car and was leaving the vehicle when the truck turned around and headed back, directly toward the deputy. The deputy fired two rounds at the truck, but was not hurt in the incident. The chase ended at Ibex Road and Route AA south of Joplin when the truck left the roadway, crashed through a fence and entered a field. Elliot escaped on foot, along with another person.”

Also arrested Monday were Nichole Marie Landrum of Lampe, Kristina Elliot, and the owner of the residence, a 66-year old white male.

Elliott was arrested and booked on the following charges:

  •  Stealing a motor vehicle (Stone County warrant) bond $25,000;
  •  Passing a bad check (Stone County warrant) bond $25,000;
  •  First-degree burglary, (Taney County warrant) bond $40,000;
  •  Passing bad checks (Barry County warrant) bond $1,200;
  •  Passing a bad check (Barry County warrant) bond $1,000;
  •  Passing a bad check (Christian County warrant) bond $2,000;
  •  Fail to return leased/rented property (Taney County warrant) bond $10,000;
  •  Fail to return leased/rented property (Taney County warrant) bond $5,000;
  •  Stealing (Taney County warrant) bond $50,000;
  •  Passing a bad check (Taney County warrant) bond $1,410;
  •  Resisting/interfering with arrest of a felon (Newton County warrant) bond $20,000;
  •  Receiving stolen property (Newton County warrant) bond $5,000;
  •  Second-degree burglary, (Barry County warrant) bond $50,000;
  •  Second-degree burglary, (Benton County, Ark., warrant) no bond;
  •  Probation violation, no bond.

“We have two active Newton County warrants on him, but we are in the waiting line with numerous other counties in Missouri to have charges on him,” said Copeland. “So we don’t know when we will get him.”

While at the residence, deputies located a stolen vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Rogers, Ark. A Ziploc bag believed to contain methamphetamine was also located. Later in the evening, a search warrant was executed at the residence for additional items.
