Missouri Southern men's basketball coach Robert Corn has announced the signing of junior college transfer Richard Borries to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and play basketball for the Lions beginning in the 2009-10 season.

Borries, a 6-6, 245 pound power forward, transfers to Southern after two years at Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois where he played for coach Chad Jones. A two-year starter for the Loggers, Borries was a first-team All-Region and second-team All-Conference selection this past season after averaging 11.3 points and 8.4 rebounds, while shooting 57 percent from the field. He helped lead his team to a 20-11 record.

A native of Teutoplis, Ill., Borries was a two-year letterwinner for the Teutoplis High School Wooden Shoes, where he prepped for coach Ken Crawford. While there, he was a member of the Charleston High School Holiday All-Tournament team and helped lead his team to a third place finish in the state tournament. He also earned two letters playing baseball at THS.

“We are extremely excited to have a player of Richard's caliber coming into our program,” Corn said. “He brings a wealth of experience and toughness to our inside positions and comes from great junior college and high school programs. He is used to winning and we (as a staff) have been trying to make a conscious effort to look for kids that come from winning backgrounds. He has had success at every stop and we're looking forward to having him in our program.”
Borries is the son of Steve and Theresa Borries and has two younger siblings. He is undecided on his future major at Southern.
