Last year the Neosho Lady Wildcats pulled off a big upset by defeating Nixa in penalty kicks.
Playing at?Neosho’s Lions Field for the second straight year, the Lady Eagles made sure the game ended in regulation this time around.

Rachel Murphy scored two goals, including the game-winner with four minutes left to give Nixa a 2-1 win over Neosho.

The loss was the first COC?setback for the Lady Wildcats (9-4, 2-1).

Nixa, for all intents and purposes, dominated the second half of the game and by looking at the stats, dominated the offensive-side of the game.

At halftime though the two teams were knotted a 0-0. And as late as nine minutes left to go in the game the score was tied a 1-1.

Nixa scored its first goal of the game in the 56th minute when Murphy scored. Ashlyn Robillard had kicked the ball only to have it bounce off the goal post. There, Murphy wa,s waiting and kicked it across the box for the goal.

Neosho finally got some momentum going on offense after playing mostly defense in the second half. Shelby Murray got a breakaway and was tackled in the goalie box. The foul allowed her a penalty kick and she got it past Kristin Miller, Nixa’s goalie, to tie the game a 1-1 in the 71st minute. Tied with about nine minutes to play the Lady Eagles continued to barrage Neosho’s goal and finally, with four minutes to go, got the game winner from Murphy.

“We put ourselves in an opportunity stay in the game, but a mistake at the end of the game to let them win is disappointing,” Neosho coach Steve Schnackenberg said. “We stuck with them the whole game. We felt good even thought we had to play a lot of defense.”

Nixa had 17 shots on goal, 15 of which were stopped by Neosho’s Ashley Bartkoski. Neosho managed only four shots.

The Lady Wildcats lost the JV?game 2-0 to Nixa. Erica Morris had 13 saves in goal for Neosho.
