The Webb City Lady Cardinals and East Newton Lady Patriots were both coming off good performances in softball tournaments this weekend.?Webb City placed second in the 12-team Joplin Tournament, and East Newton brought home first place in the Crowder Tournament.

On Monday, it was the Lady Cardinals that kept the hot hand, winning 6-0, in a non-conference game at home.

Webb City had six hits in the game, two each from Lexie Replogle and Lauren Jones. The Lady Cardinals did their damage thanks to some free passes by East Newton (4-2). The Lady Patriots issued six walks, hit three batters and committed five errors in the field, which set the table nicely for Webb City. Four of the six runs scored by Webb City were unearned.

Webb City pitcher Kyra Parker didn’t give up a hit, yielding only three base runners. Kristen Gardner was hit by a pitch to open the game, but was left stranded. In the fifth inning, Sam Mahurin reached on an error and then Shelby Carrell walked. Parker, a?Riverton, Kan., transfer, responded by striking out the side.

East Newton returns to action today, at 5 p.m., hosting Wheaton.
