Bundled up in a coat, scarf and hat, Neosho’s 2009 Citizen of the Year Kay Hively waited patiently for her time to flip the switch and illuminate the big tree in Big Spring Park with Christmas lights.

As the crowd of more than 150 counted down — 3… 2… 1… — Hively flipped the switch and immediately the lights sparkled on the trees and the many other displays that traditionally adorn the park during the Christmas season.

It is also a tradition that the annual Neosho Citizen of the Year get the honor of lighting the Christmas tree during the Neosho City Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Another highlight of the event was the performance of the Benton Elementary School Honor Choir, which performed several Christmas favorite for the crowd to enjoy. The choir is under the direction of Deborah Clements, and this is the first year for the program.
