It took four hours to unblock U.S. 60 leading east into Granby during Tuesday’s snowstorm.

A trucker lost control of his tractor-trailer rig, blocking the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and West Valley (U.S. 60) in Granby at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“He just spun out on the ice and snow,” said Granby Fire Chief Kevin Johnson.

The truck’s air brakes locked up repeatedly as up to eight Granby firefighters worked to free the truck. A burning building in Diamond cut their numbers as some left on a mutual aid fire call. Granby police responded and a couple of city workers brought in chat to give the truck traction. Firefighters put chains on the truck and the hillside was cleared by mid-afternoon.

Local traffic was able to divert around the blocked intersection, but some 10 semi trucks had to wait out the incident, Johnson said.
