Twelve of the 14 Neosho High School wrestlers advanced out of day 1 of the 2011 MSHSAA Wrestling Championships Thursday at Mizzou Arena.

Neosho's River Buttram (103), Nate Rodriguez (119), Trevor Hughes (125), Paxon Fowler (130), Carter Boatright (140), Payne Hatter (152), Chase Espinosa (160), Blake Stauffer (171), Dallas Smith (189), Matt Millard (215) and Riley Plew (285) all won their first-round matches to advance to the quarterfinal round Friday.

The quarterfinal round and second round of wrestlebacks begin for Class 3 at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Tanner Schaack (112 pounds) lost his first-round match, but won his first-round of wrestlebacks with a takedown in overtime after tying the match late in the third period.

Two Neosho wrestlers had their runs at the state meet end with two losses Thursday. Rimo Elwise (135) and Ethan Pogue (145) lost both their first round and first-round of wrestlebacks matches.
