Defending MIAA champion Central Missouri was the unanimous selection for preseason No. 1 in the 2011 soccer coaches poll, the conference office announced Thursday.


Defending MIAA champion Central Missouri was the unanimous selection for preseason No. 1 in the 2011 soccer coaches poll, the conference office announced Thursday.

The Jennies received eight of nine first-place votes (coaches were not able to vote for their own school) and 64 points to take the top spot. Truman received the other first-place vote and accumulated 57 points to take the No. 2 position. Central Missouri and Truman both made the NCAA South Central Regional last season.

Southwest Baptist was voted preseason No. 3 with 46 points, followed by Missouri Southern at No. 4 with 43 points. Washburn was selected fifth with 38 points, Northwest Missouri was picked sixth with 29 points, Missouri Western was voted No. 7 with 23 points, Emporia State comes in at No. 8 with 15 points, and Fort Hays State is No. 9 with nine points as the Tigers enter their first season of MIAA soccer.

Neosho graduate Brittany Copeland will join Southwest Baptist this season after a successful career in the black and gold. The Lady Bearcats will travel to Joplin on Sept. 15 for a date with MSSU.

The 2011 soccer season will begin Thursday, Sept. 1. The MIAA season officially opens up Thursday, Sept. 15.

Southern opens its schedule on Sept. 2 against Missouri-St. Louis.
