The second annual Neosho Bright Futures golf tournament has been scheduled for Friday, April 20, at the Neosho Municipal Golf Course.

The tournament will tee off at 9 a.m., and will be a four-man scramble. Teams have until Wednesday, April 18, to register. The registration fee is $150 per team and includes cart rental, green fees, breakfast, lunch and a complimentary beverage cart.

The tournament will feature two hole-in-one prizes: a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze from Griffith Motors, and a $500 watch from Matters Jewelry of Neosho.

Jonathan Russell, chair of the Bright Futures Neosho advisory board, said half of the proceeds from the tournament would go directly to the Bright Futures Neosho fund, while the other half will go to the high school and junior high school site council.

Russell said each school in the district has a Bright Futures site council, which works as a subcommittee that focuses primarily on the needs of that school.

In the case of the golf tournament funds, the half going to the site council will be spent on the needs of junior high and highschool students.

“Anything that comes up that the school doesn’t pay for,” Russell said.

Russell said the site councils have helped with everything from dental work for a student to buying tissues for classrooms.
So far, 10 teams have signed up for the tournament.

Russell said last year’s tournament raised $2,500 for Bright Futures Neosho.

“Last year was our first year so we didn’t raise a lot but we’re hoping to double that this year,” Russell said.

Shauna Norris, chairperson for the high school and junior high site council, is organizing the golf tournament this year. She said as of Thursday, they have half as many sponsors as needed.

Those interested in becoming a sponsor may do so with a $100 donation, and can contact Norris at shauna@insuranceneosho.com.
