James Lee “Jim” McCain, 71, Granby, died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his home, following a lengthy illness.  

He was born June 22, 1940, in Anthony, Kan., to Arlo and Marie (Hart) McCain.

Mr. McCain lived most of his life in the Southwest Missouri area and retired from the U.S. Navy after more than 20 years of service to his country. He retired as plant manager at Crowder College, Dec. 7, 2007, after many years. He loved to fish, garden, the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his best friend, Gavin. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Granby, the Church of Hope in Neosho, and the House of Prayer in Monett.

Jim married Catherine Cash, and to this union three daughters were born. Deborah McCain, Severna Park, Md., Kimberly Kirby and husband, Rod, Waynesville, Mo., and Maureen Moore, St. Louis, Mo.

He and Sandra Mishler-Moore were married June 27, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nev.; she survives, along with his step-children, Mark Moore and wife, Tammy, Lanagan, David Moore and wife, Maritza, Spanish Lookout, Belize, Cheryl Whitcomb and husband, Lloyd, Siloam Springs, Ark., Stephanie Shelley and husband, Chris, Westville, Okla., and Mary Thomas, Granby. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol McConnell, Pineville; two brothers, Donald McCain and wife, Lois, Newton, Kan., and Robert McCain, Pineville; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel, in Granby, with Rev. Malcolm Mosby and Rev. Zach Bellah officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at the service.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time, where the family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m., prior to the service.
