A Monday morning one-vehicle crash in Newton County sent a Florida resident to the hospital with minor injuries.

Elijah M. Hamlet, 16 of Sebring, Fla., was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 71, five miles south of Joplin at 11:23 a.m. Monday when he lost control of his 2006 Ford Mustang on the wet road, skidded off the roadway across a ditch and struck a utility pole and fence.

Hamlet was taken by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.  

He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, the patrol report noted.

A Seneca man received minor injuries early Sunday morning when his 2010 Honda All Terrain Vehicle rolled down a steep hillside just east of Seneca.

Gerald D. Grant, 49, was traveling eastbound down a hill located one-tenth of a mile east of Seneca along Old U.S. Highway 60, when his ATV rolled.

According to the patrol report, Grant was ejected and then struck by the vehicle.

He was taken to Freeman Hospital in Neosho.

A Saturday afternoon motorcycle accident sent one Newton County resident to the hospital.

Janet A. Mittag, 47, of Stark City, received minor injuries when the 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle she was a passenger on overturned.

Kevin S. Mittag, 52, of Stark City, was driving the motorcycle westbound on Missouri Highway HH two miles east of Neosho when the motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

The passenger was transported by private vehicle to Freeman Hospital in Neosho.

The driver and passenger were wearing their helmets at the time of the accident, the patrol report noted.

No injuries were reported for the driver.
