Denzil Elmer Thurman, 82, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his home in Neosho, following a long illness.

Denzil Elmer Thurman, 82, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his home in Neosho, following a long illness.  

Denzil was born on Sept. 3, 1931, in Neosho, the son of Elmer O. and Bertha (Piercy) Thurman. He has been a lifelong area resident of the Neosho area. Denzil was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Air Force from August 1951 to November 1953, being medically discharge. He was a carpenter, farmer and worked at Big Smith.  He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church.  

On Dec. 3, 1995, Denzil married and is survived by Carolyn J. Thurman.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Allen Thurman; and brothers, Kenneth Thurman, William Thurman, Donald Thurman, Larry Thurman; sisters, Irene Thurman, Bernice Phelan and Imogene Jennings.  

He has four surviving siblings, Delmar Thurman and Gary Thurman, Neosho and Lucille Pfeifer, Bono, Ark. and Velma Dean Eddington, Houston, Mo.  

He raised five children, and is survived by D. Lyle Thurman, his wife Claudia and two children all of Sarcoxie, Greggory O. Thurman, his significant other, Brenda White and one child of Neosho, Terry A. Thurman, his wife, Pam and two children, Rogers, Ark., and Marilyn Jean (Jeannie) Zerr and three children, Sarcoxie; and 13 great- grandchildren.  

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, pastor Wayne Rose officiating. Interment and full military honors will follow in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Terry L. Thurman, Timothy A. Thurman, Ricky Thurman, Richard Thurman, Gary Phelan and Jerry Jennings. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Thurman, Bradley Thurman and Stacy Thurman.  

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. today and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
