NIXA — The Neosho High School cross-country season came to an end on saturday as their only sectional qualifiers failed to advance to the state championships next week in Jefferson City.

NIXA — The Neosho High School cross-country season came to an end on saturday as their only sectional qualifiers failed to advance to the state championships next week in Jefferson City.

The Class 4 sectional meet was held on the campus of Inman school, along with the district meet for Class 3.

NHS sophomore Anne Vernon finished her campaign by placing in 48th with a season- and personal-best time of 20:34, 20 seconds better than her best time going in to the meet.

Vernon stated that she was pleased with her time and is looking forward to another go at qualifying for the state meet next year. She was voted the MVP of the girls team, as well as team captain by her teammates.

NHS senior Carter Hickman completed his career by placing 75th place in 18:07. Hickman was the leader of the Wildcats all season, finishing as the top team finisher in almost all meets, as well as being elected team captain and the MVP  by his teammates.
