JOPLIN - The Neosho 16U softball team defeated Joplin 10-0 on Saturday and Webb City 12-2 on Sunday to earn a spot in the district championship game at 6:30 p.m. today at Blinzler Softball Complex.

JOPLIN - The Neosho 16U softball team defeated Joplin 10-0 on Saturday and Webb City 12-2 on Sunday to earn a spot in the district championship game at 6:30 p.m. today at Blinzler Softball Complex.

Down to its final at-bat Sunday night, Neosho 12U baseball came through with a four-run rally to earn a 13-12 victory over Joplin American at Sunny Jim Park.

“I cannot say how proud I and the other coaches are of this team,” Neosho head coach Chuck Kitchen said. “It seemed like we were down and out, but we never gave up. These boys deserve lots of praise and recognition. WOW is all I can say after that game. Just incredible.”

Neosho played Webb City or the Joplin Nationals on Monday.

On Sunday, Neosho fell behind several times in the game: 2-0 in the first, 11-4 and 12-5 at different points and finally 12-9 entering the bottom of the sixth.

Neosho scored four runs in the first, four in the fourth and finally four in the sixth.

Sam Cook, Sam Collinsworth and Noah Brashers each had outstanding games for Neosho.

Cook went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI. On the mound, he earned the victory.
Collinsworth played hero with the game-winning double in the sixth, culminating a 4-5 night with three RBI.

Brashers finished 2-3 with three RBI, none bigger than his game-tying hit in the sixth. Brashers came home on Collinsworth’s walk-off double.

All told, Cook, Collinsworth and Brashers combined for 9-12 (collective .750 batting average) with nine RBI.

Three young men must have ate their Wheaties on Sunday.
