Three people were injured Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 60 about 3 miles east of Neosho at the overpass with Missouri Highway 59, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
An eastbound 2013 Chevrolet, driven by Jesse R. Merritt, 25, of Aurora, struck a vehicle that had slowed for a stopped vehicle in front of it at 4:08 p.m. The slowed vehicle, another 2013 Chevrolet driven by Shala Bass, 25, of Diamond, was pushed into the first vehicle, a 2001 Ford Windstar driven by Joshua L. Gose, 30, of Springfield. Gose was stopped to make a left-hand turn onto 59, according to the highway patrol.
Bass’ vehicle traveled off the south edge of the road after impact, while Merritt’s car continued east and struck Gose’s vehicle in the rear. Merritt suffered moderate injuries and the other two drivers minor injuries, the patrol reported. Merritt was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Joplin and the other two by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. All three were reported to be wearing seat belts.
