HARRISON, Ark. — The Crowder Lady Roughriders and the North Arkansas Lady Pioneers were destined to play close games this season.

In their first meeting this season at Bob Sneller Gymnasium, back in early December, North Arkansas defeated Crowder 62-60 on a 3-point shot late, very late in regulation.

In their second meeting Tuesday at North Arkansas' Pioneer Pavilion, Crowder rallied in regulation and Kourtney Shipley's 3-point shot forced overtime. In overtime, Tori Hayes' late basket gave the Lady Pioneers a 82-81 victory.

Crowder dropped to 5-11 overall on the season and the Lady 'Riders returned to action Thursday night at home against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, looking to end a three-game losing streak. Crowder's winless after their first three games of the new year.

Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa entered that game with a 3-9 record and on a six-game losing streak. In other words, something had to give in this matchup.

On Tuesday, Crowder sophomore guard Elle Williams gave another sensational performance with a team-high 20 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and a team-high six assists, plus one steal. She made 7 of 15 shots from the field, 2-8 from 3-point range, and 4-5 from the stripe in 42 minutes played.

Williams has been strong early in 2019, scoring at least 20 points in all three Crowder games of the new calendar year. She hit for a season-high 24 points Saturday against St. Louis and had 20 points even against both Redlands and North Arkansas.

On the season, Williams leads Crowder in scoring with nearly 15 points per night, a number that she's recently increased.

Shipley hit five of six from 3-point range for all of her 15 points Tuesday night and the freshman guard from Ava added one rebound.

Maegan Bandimere came off the bench for 13 points, Maia Wright added 10 points, Ashley Reichert tallied nine points, three rebounds, and two assists, Alex Vogt had five points, six rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot, and Tricia Wattman added four points, five rebounds, three assists, and one block.

Three North Arkansas players combined for 73 of the Lady Pioneers' 82 points: Hayes and Leah Shellnut tied for a game-high 25 points and Ashlynn Taylor added 23. Makenzie Gardner and Cheyenne Shelton rounded out the scoring with six and three, respectively.

Like Williams, Hayes finished with a double-double as she recorded a game-high 12 boards.

Crowder had twice as many turnovers as North Arkansas (18-9) and two Lady Pioneers, the similarly named Shelton and Shellnut, each came through with five steals.

Each team made 11 3-point shots and Crowder hit 50 percent from long range.
