A report of gunfire, which was later dispelled, brought a large response by Neosho police to a residence in the 500 block of West South Street near High Street about 5 p.m. Thursday.

“The information provided at the time of dispatch was that there was a firearm presented in a threatening manner,” Chief David Kennedy reported. “We arrived on scene and through our investigation we have effected an arrest for first-degree domestic assault.”

Lt. Jason Baird added that police received reports that shots were fired, but that was unfounded.

The suspect remains unidentified until formal charges are filed by the Newton County Prosecutor.
