DIAMOND — Incoming Diamond senior running back Triston Shepherd has been selected to participate as a running back and wide receiver in the Blue-Grey Southwest Super Regional Combine held June 26 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.
During his junior season, under first year head coach Ben Glidewell, Shepherd proved a dangerously effective multi-purpose threat with the football in his hands.
Shepherd totaled 1,329 yards of total offense and 16 touchdowns between 760 yards and 11 TDs on 96 carries and 430 yards and three TDs on 17 receptions.
In addition, he completed 3 of 6 passes for 139 yards and two scores.
"He is the spark," Glidewell said of Shepherd during last season.
"Whenever he's on, we move the ball a lot better. We have other playmakers, as well, but he's a special player. Thankfully, he's just a junior."
Diamond enjoyed one of its best seasons in school history, with a 7-4 season and a playoff win before a season-ending loss to Fair Grove in the Class 2, District 3 semifinals. Diamond defeated Ash Grove 24-21 in the district playoffs.
Shepherd already participated in the Blue-Grey Heartland Football Combine at NCAA Division II Missouri Western, also home of the practice site of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Arlington's combine effectively serves as Shepherd's audition for one of the four Blue-Grey National All-American Bowls played at four different NFL stadiums later this year.
