Plans and preparations are under way for the Neosho Area Community Christmas Dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25 at The Civic in Neosho.

Plans and preparations are under way for the Neosho Area Community Christmas Dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Monday, Dec. 25 at The Civic in Neosho.
The dinner is held each year on Christmas Day, so that the people in this area will have a place to come and enjoy a hot meal and fellowship with others.
"We don’t want people to be alone on Christmas Day," said Roberta Foster, with KNEO Radio who sponsors the dinner. "Additionally, we want to show Jesus Christ’s love to others.  Just as Jesus fed thousands of people through miracles, we want to feed our neighbors through the generosity and sacrifice of local individuals, churches and businesses."
An event as large as this cannot be done without the support of the community.  Therefore, the planning committee is asking for donations to make this possible.  Cash donations are needed to purchase the majority of the meat, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, vegetables and paper products.
"We want to provide an at-home feeling to the meal; so we are asking individuals, churches or groups to provide home-made salads and pies," she said..
Call KNEO Radio at 451-5636 if you want to make a donation of any kind.
"We also need volunteers," Foster said.
Volunteers are needed to prepare the food and set up The Civic for the event on Dec. 24. Although it is Sunday, Brenda McGilvray, head cook, will be at The Civic getting the food prepared for the next day.  She would appreciate many others who would come to carve turkeys and hams and other preparations in the kitchen and set up.  They are asking for volunteers from 9 a.m. -.4 p.m. Dec.  24.
Your help would be so appreciated whether you come before church or after church.  Lunch will be served between noon and 1 p.m. for the volunteers.
On Christmas Day, volunteers would be appreciated from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. to prepare the food, serve the food, beverages and desserts, greet folks at the door, hand out goodie bags or gifts, and many other tasks.
To volunteer, please call KNEO at 451-5636 by 4 p.m. on Friday Dec. 22. KNEO offices will be closed over the weekend so we really need people to call early to volunteer or make donations.
Last year, they delivered about 120 meals in the Neosho area. Anyone who is homebound and needs a meal delivered can call KNEO at 451-5636.  The deadline is at 4 p.m. Friday,  Dec. 22.  No one will be checking the phones over the Christmas weekend to take the request, so call by 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22.
"The Neosho are has a strong sense of community and Jesus loves each one - this is why this event continues to be a blessing to so many people," she said
