On Saturday, more than 850 families received food baskets during the 30th annual Newton County Food Basket Brigade.
The food baskets are enough food for the families for a traditional Christmas dinner and staples for up to 10 days thereafter. Food ranged from a pre-cooked ham to non-perishable food items such as green beans, corn, rice, and even other items such as bread and potatoes.
The event began at 7:45 a.m. and concluded around 1 p.m. today at the Newton County Fairgrounds.
