On Friday, Oak Pointe Assisted Living & Memory Care of Neosho, hosted a summer cookout for not only their residents, but also for the community.
"Thursday (June 21) was the first day of summer so we decided to have a big celebration for the residents and a lot of activities," said Travis McClellan, community relations manager at the facility. "We made this a community event this year to get a lot of community involved, let them see what Oak Pointe has to offer. Just come out and look, have a nice free lunch on us. We (had) hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade potato salad, and all of the stuff made here by our chef."
The event was from noon to 2 p.m. and included live music, food and sweet treats.
Oak Pointe of Neosho is an assisted living and memory care community offering private rental apartments and a variety of services. The community is located at 2601 Oak Ridge Extension, Neosho.
"We have been here for two years," he said. "We are not a nursing home, it is not skilled nursing, but the care is here if they need it. They are able to get around on their own, do what they like to do on their own time. They are welcome to come and go if they are allowed."
Currently, there are 38 residents at the facility.
The community council also take a tour of the facility and talk to the residents.
"I am very thankful for the community. It makes me happy they are supporting (us)," McClellan said. "We are always doing bingo on Fridays. We get a lot volunteer work done here, so anybody that wants to come in and spend time with the residents, they love the community that comes in, does any games with them, plays cards, reads."
