Countless firework tents are selling fireworks in Southwest Missouri.
Since Saturday, June 23, husband and wife Hunter and Amber Wylie have been operating TNT Fireworks on the Neosho Walmart parking lot.
"This is our first year running one, but since I was 16, I helped my best friend, his father one in Joplin and Webb City," said Hunter.
As far as why they opted to work the stand this year, Amber said, "just to get some extra money, we want to go on vacation - in Eureka Springs. And I like fireworks."
Prior to the tent opening up, Hunter and Amber were busy - along with some of their friends - setting up the tent filled with fireworks ranging from the traditional fireworks to the colorful fireworks to other ones.
The couple stay onsite in their RV through the season.
"It (running a fireworks stand) is really good for families if they do this, because you will make a decent money, it will pay for vacation or do something," he said. "We can sell two weeks prior to July 4 and two weeks after that."
Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
"Sales right now have been kind of slow,"she said.
Hunter added, "it is usually slow the first week or so, but when it gets closer to July 4, it will get a lot busier. July 2,3,4 is usually when you make your money. (As far as what they are buying) people come in and get the little things for their kids. Then when it gets closer to the Fourth, they will come in for the bigger things."
Advice
With fireworks, there is some good advice to follow.
" Just take precautions," said Amber. "Read directions on the things that you buy, because you don't always know what it does, so if you light it, and you know what it does, it wont blow up in your hands."
Hunter added, "that is one thing about TNT, I have not see it at any other fireworks tents, they have a little description of what each does and the noise, how bright it is."
