GRANBY —The East Newton United recently received a sizable donation.
"Tyson Foods is a long time supporter of education and has committed to building stronger, healthier communities," said Shannon McDermott, chairman of EN United. "EN United was chosen through a grant application to receive funds that will support our mission which goes hand in hand with Tyson Foods commitment to local communities."
Tyson Foods presented a $25,000 grant to the program.
"One hundred percent of the funds we were given will continue to support our programs such as the weekend food packs, providing school supplies, clothing, hats and gloves, scholarships and basic needs that arise for our students," she said. "EN United is a volunteer group that works to ensure the basic needs of our students are met so that each student has an opportunity for success in school and in their future."
McDermott said EN United is pleased with the donation.
"EN United feels incredibly blessed to have been chosen," she said.  "As a small community to have a corporation such as Tyson Foods recognize a need and then provide a means for our organization to continue to provide for those needs is very humbling. Our program is completely reliant on our community and the many generous donors and volunteers we have.  Each donation, wether it be $5 or $500 makes a difference in helping a student and we certainly couldn't accomplish what we do without our supporters."
