Each year on the last Thursday in September, the Neosho Bosom Buddies Group hosts a ceremony designed to honor breast cancer survivors and honor those who lost the fight. It's also an event to launch Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October.
Spokesperson Donna Hood, a breast cancer survivor, said that the event is called 'Every Candle Has A Name'.
"It will take place on Thursday, Sept. 27 beginning at 7 p.m. in Big Spring Park, in front of the stage. Everyone that attends will have the opportunity to light a candle in honor or memory of a loved one from the central candle of hope – if you do not want to light a Candle you are still welcome to come and honor someone in silence."
One of those attending will read the poem titled 'Every Candle Has A Name'. Music and prayers will also be part of the ceremony. The public is invited to attend and Hood suggest they bring lawn chairs to be comfortable.
