So in 1996, a movie came out called “Mars Attack!”. It was directed by acclaimed director Tim Burton and had an all star cast. It was a rather strange comic science fiction movie, so don’t feel bad if you don’t recall it.

I can save you the time of watching it by summarizing it in just a couple of sentences. Martians land on earth and the President (played by Jack Nicholson) thinks they are friendly. Turns out they aren’t and they start killing everyone on earth. By accident it is found out that the Martian’s heads explode when they hear Slim Whitman’s song “Indian Love Call”. Martian’s die and earth is saved.

That’s the movie in a nutshell. So what in the heck does this have to do with anything important? I was just wondering if liberal’s heads would explode like the Martians did in the movie if Trump wins re-election in 2 years.

You know a lot of celebrities who think they are more important than they really are threatened to leave the country if Trump was elected in the first place and those promises turned out to be as hollow as their convictions. So, don’t expect anyone’s heads to literally explode but who knows.

I thought politics in this country had reached a pretty low point but the Washington liberals are trying their best to see just how low they can go. Now they trot out these allegations against Trump’s Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh at the 23rd hour even though they have been in possession of them for months.

Now, if they were that concerned don’t you think they would have brought them out at the beginning instead of using them as a last ditch effort to derail the process? Of course not, that would have been the right thing to do and doing the right thing is really not in vogue in Washington.

I’m not giving my opinion on whether or not the allegations are true or false because I’m not in a position to judge because I haven’t heard all the facts. I have my thoughts but will keep them to myself. I guess that makes me part of the minority because a whole lot of people think they know exactly what happened nearly 40 years ago (even though they weren’t there).

But, I will offer this thought, does anyone else think it might be just a little too well planned that these “allegations” came out when they did? I guess I’m just a little jaded and don’t think the Washington crowd really cares about the facts as long as they can stop Kavanaugh (or any other pick that Trump might put forward).

Someone said they saw a novel idea on Facebook the other day. The thought was that maybe Trump could nominate Hillary Clinton and then we could get a real FBI investigation on her. Okay, thought that was funny so wanted to throw it out.

Don’t know how this is going to play out but this much I do know – things are only getting worse in DC. And, we are all paying the cost of the vitriol hatred for anything conservative coming out of the liberal base.

Many liberals no longer like to be called by that name – they prefer the term “progressive”. I guess they think that people view progress as a good thing and that their liberal ideology embodies progress hence the term “progressive”. I refuse to use that term because I don’t buy into that logic.

Progress (change) is not always a good thing. Sure, our lives might become easier but easy is not always better. Technology has improved the way we live but it has also had a negative impact on how we live. We are all so wrapped up in our phones and gadgets that interpersonal relationships seem to be a second thought in our hurry up lives.

And then there are changes just for the sake of changing. I was in Walmart the other day and couldn’t find what I was looking for because they had changed the store layout – again. I’m sure they paid someone a whole bunch of money to say this new layout was more profitable, more appealing and all that other marketing voodoo but there is some comfort in consistency.

Sounds like I’m against change and I guess in some ways I don’t embrace change as quickly as I should. In marketing terms I’m a late adopter. But, once I accept the change I do learn it and make it work for me.

My point is that all change is not by definition progress and there is nothing wrong with being cautious with change. And, when it comes to Washington politics – try for just once to do the right thing for the right reason. And don’t jump to conclusions that you can’t defend.
