Seeking housing sponsors
The Southwest Missouri Area Health Education Center (SWMO AHEC) is seeking housing sponsors to host public health and health care professions students while they are completing required community based rotations in the area. Housing sponsors are especially needed in our rural communities.
SWMO AHEC works to increase access to health care by increasing the number of students who go into public health and health care careers. Programming includes Youth Pipeline Recruitment, which provides workshops and career planning for rural high school students, and Clinical Programs, which coordinates clinical rotations and manages schedules and exams for visiting medical school students.
“The goal of the Southwest Missouri AHEC donated housing program is to provide public health and health care professions students with a safe, secure, and friendly living environment for rural educational rotations,” says Trisha Riggs AHEC Director. Students will receive a positive community experience while they are studying with a local physician or public health agency, and encourage them to come back to practice in our local communities.
The typical length of stay is either two, four, six, or ten weeks. The housing sponsor is asked to provide a bedroom, access to a full bathroom, and access to a working kitchen. The housing sponsor is not required to furnish meals or transportation. Students are expected to abide by all house rules.
“The value of donated student housing is also generally considered tax-deductible! We will provide a letter at the end of the year verifying the number of weeks you have provided housing. Then, you and your tax professional can best assign a dollar value to your donation,” Trisha continues. To apply to be a housing donor, a simple application is completed describing your housing, a background check, and a site visit may be completed at no expense to you.

Branco Enterprises named patron of the month
The Neosho School District has named Branco Enterprises as the January 2019 patron of the month and be formally announced at tonight's Board of Education meeting. Reasons for the honor include the fact that Branco conducts a "real world" classroom for students from both Neosho Junior and Senior High Schools in which students visit job sites. On site, Branco employees conduct classes about the construction processes. Branco also continues to support the Neosho School District in many ways.
