Join the Carver Birthplace Association for the 10 Mile Carver Run/Walk and three person team relays on Saturday, April 13. The event begins at the historic original 1872 Schoolhouse located at 639 Young Street in Neosho.

A ranger will present a program about the history of the school, which was once known as the Neosho Colored School. George Washington Carver attended class here in 1876.

The park ranger from the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond will begin the program at 9 a.m.

The 10 Mile Carver Walk/Run travels through the countryside where a young Carver walked from the home of Moses and Susan Carver to begin his first formal education in Neosho. The course includes some hills, some paved roads and some dirt roads. Entry fee is $25 on race day or $40 for teams.

100 precent of the proceeds from the event will go toward the ongoing restoration of the schoolhouse.
